BRAZILIAN ASSOCIATION FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF HOSPITAL BUILDING
MISSION
The ABDEH is an independent, open and multidisciplinary entity, constituted by professionals and enterprises related to the health sector whose main goal is to contribute to a continuous evolution of the hospitals environment, from the conception to the functioning, valorizing its importance for the improvement of the Brazilian society quality of life.
GOALS
- Gather professionals working on the conception, designing, building, equipping, managing and operating of the Health Assistance Institutions (EAS).
- Promote, develop and share knowledge about EAS.
- Promote the principle of integrated and total planning in the EAS conception and production through the improvement of interdisciplinary participation.
- Promote a more efficient and competent managing of the project making, building, furnishing, maintenance and safety of the EAS.
- Compare local and international experiences.
- Offer assistance and establish covenants with other national and international education, research and extension organizations.
- Carry out congresses, seminars, conferences and technical meetings in order to stimulate and develop among the participants the knowledge on EAS, encouraging the experience exchange among experts and similar associations locally and abroad.
- Divulge studies, researches, papers and reports through private agencies or other means of publicizing.
- Offer courses on themes related to the conception, production, managing and operating the EAS.
DESCRIPTION
In 1994, the association is founded, after several discussions about the necessity of creating an open entity comprising different categories of professionals, all of them related to the hospital area, such as architects, engineers, nurses, physicians, hospital managers and others, always with a common interest: Improve health (hospital) buildings for the well-being of the ones who work there, the ones who use them and their families.
On May 16th, 1994 it was constituted the Brazilian Association for the Development of the Hospital Buildings – ABDEH- with the first board of directors located in São Paulo, and the architect João Carlos Bross as its first president.
In 1996, the second board of directors took office with the president being the architect Jayme Spínola Castro Neto.
In 1998, the architect Mariluz Gómez takes the presidency and the seat is transferred to Londrina PR for 2 years more. In this year, it was instituted the regional representative post.
In 2000, the seat is transferred to Porto Alegre and the architect Irineu Breitman takes the presidency until June 2002.
In 2002, the 5th ABDEH board of directors takes office with the engineer Salim Lamha Neto as the president. In this period, it was instituted the definite headquarters in São Paulo. It was also approved the prorogation from 2 to 3 years of the board of directors activities.
In 2005, the architect Flávio Kelner, from Rio de Janeiro, takes on the presidency of the association, managing to increase the number of associates and the visibility of ABDEH in the midia.
In 2008, the architect Flavio Bicalho from Brasilia is elected and, as ABDEH's seventh president, is responsible for an administrative restructuring of the association, as well as organizing its 5th congress in 2010.
In 2011, architect and professor Fabio Bitencourt is elected the eight president, his presidency is marked for the increase in international participation and cooperation, specially among Latin countries and also the IFHE, and for organizing the 6th congress in Florianpolis.
In 2014, Marcio Nascimento de Oliveira, also an architect and professor, is elected as the 9th president and decided to focus on offering more courses and publications, organizing the 7th congress in Salvador in 2016, and strengthening ABDEH's presence in the international scene, with the organization of an internatinal seminar at Rio de Janeiro, 2017.

- Participates in all discounts and promotions that the ABDEH establishes and supports with other entities.
- Participates in the ABDEH assemblies with the right to vote.
- Fees can be paid annually or every trimester.
- Access to restricted website areas.
EDITORIAL PROJECT
The main objective of the ABDEH editorial project is to publicize and divulge the scientific works of recognized relevance that contribute to the development of buildings on the health area, from the architectonic and engineering aspects as well as to the ones who intervene on the environmental quality, administrative aspects and health procedures.
COURSES AND LECTURES
Monthly, the ABDEH and its regional branches promote “Encounters” (lectures and courses) among its associates in order to exchange experiences of the professionals involved with the hospital buildings, in projects, building, equipping, hospital managing, etc.
Courses already offered:
- ANVISA (National Agency of Sanitary Inspection), Ministry of Labor and other entities legislation.
- ABNT (Brazilian Association of Technical Standardization) normalization, ISO (International Organization for Standardization) and other entities.
- Installation of medicinal gases.
- Hospital Planning.
- Specific legislation on the EAS projects.
